A responsive, lightweight pickup which mounts on the bridge plate centered between the 1st and 6th strings. It gives a true reproduction of the guitar's acoustic sound and is designed to be totally unobtrusive. The Acoustic Feather for guitar weighs less than two grams. Highly resistant to feedback. Simple to install, the ¼" endpin jack is included. Preamp is recommended.

Tools You'll Need

• Soft cloth or protective pad
• Small flashlight (to see inside the guitar body)
• Drill or reamer sized for the endpin jack (if your guitar does not have an existing endpin jack hole)

Before You Begin

The GF-30 mounts on the bridge plate inside the guitar body, centered between the 1st and 6th strings. It does not require any saddle slot modification or routing. Confirm that you can access the interior of the guitar through the soundhole and that the bridge plate is accessible. If your guitar already has an endpin jack installed, the wiring step is simplified.

Bridge Plate Mounting Note

⚠️ Hypothesis — confirm with McIntyre documentation before proceeding: The GF-30 element is typically attached to the bridge plate using a small amount of adhesive or a mounting pad provided by the manufacturer. The exact adhesive type and preparation of the bridge plate surface should be confirmed with McIntyre's official installation instructions before applying anything to your instrument.

Installation Steps

1. Remove the strings or loosen them enough to reach through the soundhole comfortably.
2. Reach inside the guitar and locate the bridge plate (the reinforcing plate glued to the top just behind the saddle).
3. Position the GF-30 transducer element on the bridge plate, centered between where the 1st and 6th strings pass through.
4. Secure the element per the manufacturer's adhesive or mounting instructions (confirm method before proceeding).
5. Route the lead wire through the interior toward the endpin jack location.
6. If no endpin jack hole exists, drill or ream an appropriately sized hole at the endpin location — or have this done by a technician.
7. Install the ¼" endpin jack and secure the lead wire connection.
8. Re-string and test the output signal, with or without a preamp.

When to Seek Professional Help

• You need to drill or enlarge the endpin jack hole
• The bridge plate is not accessible or the guitar has an unusual internal structure
• You are uncertain about adhesive application on the instrument's interior
• You are uncomfortable working inside the guitar body

A guitar technician or luthier can complete this installation with minimal risk to the instrument.

Preamp Requirements

A preamp is optional but recommended for the GF-30. Running the pickup directly into a standard ¼" input will work, but a preamp will improve signal strength, reduce noise, and provide tone control. The GF-30 is passive and compatible with most acoustic guitar preamps.
